Arkansas Coalition for Peace and Justice

The Arkansas Coalition for Peace and Justice (ACPJ) is an association of individuals and organizations who seek to promote peaceful and just relationships between individuals, communities, organizations, governing bodies and the environment; through education, dialogue and action.

We focus on three areas:

  • Peace and Nonviolence: peacemaking, peaceful conflict resolution and finding alternatives to war
  • Social Justice: Social, racial and economic justice, human solidarity and human rights
  • Ecology: Sustainability, stewardship, and protection of our environment

The coalition is committed to a culture of peace, and building a country where domestic policies are sound and just, and where the world at large is treated with respect and dignity.

ACPJ was founded in the early 2000s by peace activist concerned by the lead up to the Iraq War after 9/11. Our roots go back to the Arkansas Peace Center, which was active in the 1980s and 1990s.

Throughout the year we present programs promoting peace and justice in our community; including:

  • Public forums and discussion about topics of Domestic and Foreign Policy, Social Justice and Nonviolence.
  • Exhibits including American Friends Service Committee’s, Eyes Wide Open exhibit highlighting the human losses from the Iraqi war and the nationally-acclaimed “Unembedded” photo exhibit about the war in Iraq
  • Nationally know peace activists including Dr. Erica Chenoweth, author of “Why Civil Resistance Works: The Strategic Logic of Nonviolent Conflict” and Col. Ann Wright.
  • KABF Speak Up Arkansas monthly radio show
  • Lyon College’s Sophia Prize

ACPJ  collaborates with and supports coalition partners like Arkansas WAND, decARcerate, Pax Christi Little Rock, World Beyond War, Clinton School for Public Service and the Poor People’s Campaign to produce events including:

  • Annual commemoration of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
  • Arkansas Peace Week
  • Pilgrimage for Peace
  • Public demonstrations against war and injustice
  • Public lectures by peace activists like Father John Dear and Noble Peace Prize winners Leymah Gbowee and Dr. Ira Helfand
